The tide mills of Ria Formosa

The tidal mills of the lagoon system of Ria Formosa date from the 19th century.

Their construction was based on a set of standards taking into account their specificity and especially the lands on which they were built. They were suited to grind cereals, principally wheat and corn, staple food of people and animals.
